Ruby Tuesday - Tribute to a Friend

Today's post not only has a little something for Ruby Tuesday in the way of that heavy duty winch, it is also a tribute to my good friend standing on deck. The day this shot was taken my friend Kelly had taken me on the grand tour of this "catcher-processor". It wasn't the first that I had been on as he'd worked on others and I'd seen them too. He spent a number of years in what most people consider the most dangerous job in the world. He was a chief engineer on various crab boats in the Bering Sea. Definitely not a job for just anyone. I post this photo as a tribute to Kelly. I lost my good friend a few months ago. I hope he's got a much easier job now.

  1. What a nice tribute to your friend. And I bet he appreciates the thought. He knows.

    Great shot.

Did you guess which way was up on the pond and house shot? MB

  3. Nice shot with the prowling prow looming up front. I think I personally will stick to jobs on dry land and not stormy seas.

  7. Beside the great ships
we walk down the quay, breathing

  8. I'm sorry for your loss. This is a fitting tribute to him, though. What a massive boat; it surely must be interesting to sail on one of those - although quite dangerous too depending on where it's headed!

I'm glad you liked my carpet of leaves shot. It was taken at the local AT&T corporate office in San Ramon. They have a beautiful park surrounding their massive campus, so I sometimes go there on Sundays when it's quiet to see what I can find to shoot.

  9. How sad is that? But a fitting tribute to a good friend. Can't imagine doing anything in the Bering Sea! Must have been quite a man.

  10. I'm sorry for your loss. That's one hell of a fishing boat, there are only very few of that size in France.
My godson, his brother, their father, their grandfather all are/were fishermen. I admire them so much.

  13. I can only echo what the others have said. At first I saw the photo and simply thought, isn't it wonderful to be so close to these wonderful ships? And it is. So sorry about your friend. I'm glad you posted this.

  14. Nothing beats a pic of a boat. well, maybe a train. Love that show, Deadliest Catch. would enjoy being on the ship, but not in the Bering Sea, though.
