After work today I took the short drive to The Evergreen State College, a public liberal arts and sciences college. Since it opened in 1971 it has worked extremely hard at being as self-sufficient and energy conscious as possible. The EPA recognized TESC as the top green power purchaser for 2008-2009 purchasing more green power than any other college in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. I'll be showing you more over the next couple of days but if you'd like to read more about this college you can visit their website here.
Can anyone help identify these interesting trees?
I have no idea what the trees are but they sure look interesting!
ReplyDeleteI'm also very interested in this green college and will be looking forward to your future posts about it.
I wonder what their incentive is since around here, for example, colleges haven't had the cash to improve facilities much. Maybe the taxpayers are footing the bill or most of it?
ReplyDeleteSounds like Evergreen is a good name for this college. And it looks like a lovely campus. I'll look forward to more photos of it down the road.
ReplyDeleteIronically, I took a couple shots of some similar-looking trees here yesterday. Have no idea what they are!
Hope you all have a great week!
I've heard a lot about this college. Funny...at my workplace we have trees pruned just like the ones in your photo. Thanks for visiting my SWF shot. Glad you liked it.
ReplyDeleteWhoa. Those trees look like they've got their dukes up and are ready to take on winter. Fists on trees. Who'd think such a thing?
ReplyDeleteI have always liked the concept of Evergreen College. I remember when they built it and how wonderful the idea of actual being able to be liberal. It has stayed as true as it could.
ReplyDeleteAs for the trees--I wish i could get a closer shot of the tips and the buds.
You will let us know when you ask---right!. MB
Oh I forgot to add----At the time the school was being built and landscaped I was a young mom in bothell and the school landscapers came out to our place and dug masses of Salal and Oregon Grape (Mahonia) from our woods to plant there. The planting were going to be all native plants. MB
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone.
ReplyDeleteSmall City Scenes: I thought you might be familiar with this college. It's a pretty interesting place to say the least.
Jacob: Awww, and here I thought I could count on you to I.D. these trees.
I see I've missed a few - work, work, work! That's interestinging about the green and self-sustaining aspects of the college. It's so needed these days! It's heartwarming to see it.
ReplyDeletestudents pay for all the "green" energy with tuition surcharges.
ReplyDeleteLondon Plane trees, they get pruned like this every year
