McLane Creek Nature Trail

On the weekends, and when the weather permits we like to go exploring right here at home. That's the nice thing about living here. You never run out of great places to go. Last week we drove about fifteen minutes from home and discovered another gem. McLane Creek Nature Trail. As soon as you've parked the car and hit the trail you feel as though you are miles out in the woods. In some areas there are raised wooden paths and in other spots the trails are more natural. You walk past beaver ponds, over skunk cabbage, and through lush green forrest. You hear numerous birds and see turtles sunning themselves. The trails give you options of several different lengths depending on your ability. Most of the time the trail was fairly flat though. I'll share more shots over the next couple of days. If you'd like to read a little more about this wonderful place click here or here.

  4. This is beautiful! You did a great job capturing the greens. I think they're hard to get sometimes in our forests. We don't have turtles, or I haven't seen any, and beaver dams are few and far between. I'll have to come up and try this trail. What a cool find.

About Scotch broom, it's one of the few things that makes me react at all to pollen, but since it's rained every day for the past 5 or 6 months, there's not much pollen in the air.

  5. Your description and photo of what lies right around you is nice to read. It is something most cities and neighborhoods do not have. The people who buy up the farms and convert them into subdivisions here must now make ponds and landscape them for wildlife. Which is a blessing. They began as retention ponds - like one for ever so many houses. Now, they are grown up, so to speak, and look like they have been there forever.

  6. That's a nice wooden bridge on the trail. I'd love to walk this trail.

  7. This one reminds me a lot of northern Minnesota...where we would love to walk in the woods. You do have a plethora of options in and around Olympia.

  9. That is beautiful. The bridge looks fairly new. You certainly do live in a place that is surrounded by lots of natural beauty...even if it does rain a lot!

Jacob: There really is a variety of things to do here.

Linnea W: That "rains all the time" thing.....that's just what we want people to think. ;-)
