Over the past several months I've shown you various sculptures from around the Olympia area. Several have been from State of Washington offices such as this one at the Dept of Revenue, or this one in Tumwater reminding us of Mother's Day. Today as we were driving through downtown Olympia we spotted this fountain in front of the DSHS offices. It's a beautiful bronze statue called "Water Lily" by sculptor Rosiland Cook. I think one of the things that we noticed first about it was the facial expression. So many times I can't stand the expressions on statues but this one was fairly realistic. That is a beautiful fountain. I like all kinds of fountains. I seem to be out in the country so much I forget the cities have so many great sculptures.

This is gorgeous and I hadn't known about the sculptor. Glad to know that even though it's limited, there is still public art gracing our cities.

Beautiful fountain. The stones in it are enormous. Are they some type of local stone? Around here sandstone is used a lot as that is abundant and makes for sweet ground. If you want to grow anything that requires an acid soul then you would have to treat it. I would put that sculpture anywhere around here.

ReplyDeleteYour city sure has invested well in public art. It's hard to criticize their selection. This one is beautiful for the front of a government health department. agency. Really nice shot (It is cool enlarged.)
