Things Change

North of Olympia, in the city of Lakewood is Ft Steilacoom Park. The park lies across the street from Western State Hospital, a well known Mental Hospital. This is a portion of the ruins of the Hill Ward. I actually took this photo in the summer of 2007. If you click here, you'll see the changes that have taken place here.

Thanks for the link to the current view--it's great to compare it with you older photo. I have thoroughly enjoyed catching up with your recent posts, too.

    Stark, impressive ruins.

  4. The improvements are great. A memorial to the tragic lives. But the old ruins are very interesting. MB

This looks like the remains of a cross sticking out. I went to the link and enjoyed that. This must be a strange place to visit at certain times of the day.

  6. I took lots of photos of this place before they tore it down. This is only a few miles from where I grew up.

  7. It's a very artsy photo with that angle. Is it going to stay that way?

  8. Ciel: As it explains in the linked article, the remains of the Hill Ward were removed. It looks quite different now.

The redevelopement is fine and I'm sure very welcome, but your photo of the wall section is very well done. I'm glad you captured it while you still could.
