In my last post I had mentioned that we were downtown for an event. It was "Sand in the City", a sand sculpture contest. Well, we went, we saw, we photographed, we loaded said photos on computer, then promptly (and quite accidently) deleted them. Oops! While we were there though we spotted this beautiful bronze sculpture titled "Motherhood" by Simon Kogan. The plaque reads (b. 1959 - ) Donated to the City of Olympia Art in Public Places Program, September 29th 1999. Is the boardwalk at Budd Inlet an odd place to put such a statue? All I know is it seems to attract a lot of attention. Whenever we there people are gathered around admiring it.

Over the past several months I've shown you various sculptures from around the Olympia area. Several have been from State of Washington offices such as
this one at the Dept of Revenue, or
this one in Tumwater reminding us of Mother's Day. Today as we were driving through downtown Olympia we spotted this fountain in front of the DSHS offices. It's a beautiful bronze statue called "Water Lily" by sculptor Rosiland Cook. I think one of the things that we noticed first about it was the facial expression. So many times I can't stand the expressions on statues but this one was fairly realistic. If you think Lily would look good in your garden or fountain follow

My wife spotted this one. A sculpture of three Canadian Geese in flight. This was (believe it or not) at the Washington State Department of Revenue in Tumwater.

After a couple of rain showers, this afternoon turned out pretty nice. Being Saturday the campus of South Puget Sound Community College was pretty empty. A perfect opportunity to get a clear shot of this sculpture not far from the main entrance. There is another one just a few yards away. I will probably post that one tomorrow.
