A Day at the Park

Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Located in West Olympia is Yauger Park, or as we locals refer to it this time of year "Yauger Lake." During the drier weather it is a wonderful recreational park with baseball fields, a very nice skate park, and as you can see on the left side of the photo a frisbee golf course. Besides these activities it is a popular place for walkers, joggers & dog walkers. Most of the area you see flooded here is parking lot, however after heavy rain it extends into the ball fields. It's something you get used to here. When the weather changes and the rain stops it usually only takes a couple of days before most of the water drains off.

  1. Impressive. I was in WA during a big flood, was it Dec. 07?

  2. Isn't it funny how we just accept the water over everything because we know in 2 days it will be gone. Not a flood--just western Wa. MB

I'm surprised the kids haven't thought of some kind of sport or entertainment to be had while there's water in the fields.

Excellent composition! Sharp as a tack. Periodic flooding, though, could wreak havoc with sports schedules, right?

Appears to be a great place with lots to do. I'd imagine you jog there quite often...

Ahhh...Yauger Lake! I use to work at a daycare center in the Apple Park Apartments right next to that park. We would always take the older kids over to play in the dry months... great picture!

If the temp drops this could again be a great skate park although ice skates would be needed -:)

Gotta love the PNW for watery places :)

  8. cieldequimper: Yep you are right. Excellent memory!

Small City Scenes: Nothing to get too excited about right?

Hilda: As Zingo Tots mentions there are some apartments right next door. What you see in this photo really isn't as bad as it gets. I always thought remote control boats would be great.

Jacob: Thanks for taking time in your hectic schedule. It really is a pretty nice park, and this type of flooding usually happens at this time of year when the fields aren't being used by anything other than seagulls and ducks. ;-)

Zingo Tots: Thank you. I thought you'd appreciate this one.

Chuck Pefley: Hey, I hadn't thought of that one.

    tapirgal: Yep you sure do.
