Monochrome Weekly - Road Trip to the Market

Monday, January 18, 2010

Neither my wife or I work on Mondays. Today we decided to take our youngest daughter with us and head on up to Seattle and the Pike's Place Market. Not only do we enjoy spending the day there, but we also had the privilege of meeting Chuck Pefley of One a Day - Mostly Seattle. Chuck is a talented professional photographer. He has had a stall at the market for years where he sells his wonderful photos. After my wife, daughter & I had a delicious lunch at the Athenian, a restaurant in the market where we sat at a window booth upstairs overlooking the water we caught up with Chuck. He was gracious enough to take the time to go have a cup of coffee with us and chat for a while. Thank you Chuck. It was a pleasure meeting you. Next time we head up that way lunch is on us.
This shot was taken looking down the main walkway of the market. Even in black & white I think you can tell the lighting is eye-catching.

The style of lettering and use of black and white give this a timeless quality

  2. Very nice shot. I met Chuck too and he is a very nice gent.
the B&W give this a older look. MB

I love the nostalgic feel of this b/w. Great composition and leading lines take me right into Pike Place... Oh, how I miss my PacNW! What a fun photo - full of whimsy and wonderful tones!

Ooh! How fun to meet fellow CDP bloggers! I've only met one so far, Layrayski of Butuan DP, but she hasn't posted in quite some time.

I haven't seen a neon sign like this for quite some time. Very nostalgic and perfect in monochrome.

Excellent treatment of this photo ... the vignetting enhances it a great deal, as well as what you've chosen to leave out. Leading or receding lines always strengthen composition.

It was nice of you to stop by for a visit yesterday. Great meeting the "Demanding Princess" -:) as well as you and Krise. Let's do it again, or perhaps I'll pop down and visit you in your shop. That would be fun, too.

Not "even in black and white" but especially in black and white... This is a beauty of a B&W image.

What a great time! I've only been to Seattle once, but I found it to be a wonderful city. And we ate on the waterfront, too, but I can't remember the name of the place.

The name, Chuck Pefley, sounds familiar...

Nice of him to take some time to chat.

  8. Thanks all!

AB: Some of the old signs up there are so great.

Small City Scenes: Yep, he sure is.

Yolanda: Well then get back up here when you can!

Hilda: We'd come see you, but boy that would be one heck of a drive! :-)

    Lois: It certainly was.

Chuck Pefley: I appreciate your view of the photo. If you get the chance I'd be glad to show you around one of these days.

awarewriter: Thank you not only for stopping by, but your kind comments. I'll be heading over to your blog to read the rest of your multi-part post. Looks very interesting.

Jacob: I know it's about as far away from your home as you can get, but if you ever head up this way again let us know. I'll bet there's several others that would be glad to join the group.
