Scenic Sunday - Restoration in Progress

Sunday, March 14, 2010

A view of a portion of the Nisqually Delta. What you see is part of a major reclamation project. Every one of those white pipes you see is a hand planting of some indigenous form of vegetation. I first told you about this project back in April 2009. In the distance you can see the Olympic Mountain Range.

Scenic Sunday - Take a Stroll

Sunday, March 7, 2010

Another one of the trails we enjoy walking. This paved trail connects Tumwater Historical Park with the loop around Capitol Lake. A nice peaceful place to walk.

Scenic Sunday - Sheep Shot

Sunday, November 15, 2009

Today we did some early Christmas shopping. We picked up my wife's mother and let her pick out a Rottweiler puppy at a breeder's. She picked out a cute little female that, I would imagine, will do it's best to eat her out of house and home. After we took Mom back home we passed this sheep farm. This photo was taken in Yelm. In the distance are the Bald Hills.

Scenic Sunday - Olympia Eastside View

Sunday, November 8, 2009

On a Scenic Sunday I thought I'd share this shot from the eastside of Olympia looking west through part of downtown and on to the Capitol.

Staghorn Sumac at Capitol Lake. Taken about twenty feet from where I took yesterday's photo. I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Scenic Sunday - Centralia City Light

Sunday, October 18, 2009

I believe this is the first post that I've had trouble fitting the whole name into the title space provided. You are looking at The Centralia City Light Hydroelectric Power Plant in Yelm, Washington. This is the point where the water spills over the hillside through the twin tubes at the far right of the photo and heads down to the powerhouse and the Nisqually River. Besides being an interesting place to go watch some awesome hydro power, I thought it would surely qualify for Scenic Sunday.

Capitol Lake Colors

Sunday, October 11, 2009
On the way home this afternoon we remembered it was time for a Scenic Sunday shot. Following my wife's suggestion I veered off the freeway and stopped at The Red Lion Inn which sits on a hill overlooking Capitol Lake and Interstate 5. Just so you have some point of reference look at the far end of the lake where the supporting pillars are. It's hard to tell from this angle, but if you've followed this blog for a while you might recognize that dock from this previous post. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

Scenic Sunday - Nature Walk

Sunday, September 27, 2009
With summer weather still hanging on there was no way we were going to lock ourselves indoors this weekend. Today we made a couple of wonderful stops. First to the Seymour Conservatory which had just recently changed it's display to the fall season, then to a local nature preserve. This peaceful winding path takes you through a wooded area, over two bridges, and believe it or not is only twenty five yards or so from busy streets in some places. This well kept path and inviting bridge are our contribution to Scenic Sunday.

Go Fly a Kite

Sunday, September 20, 2009

My wife and I both work on Saturdays so that leaves Sunday for family day. We decided to head over to the coast and let the kids fly kites and the dogs run on the beach. We stopped at Fred Meyer first and searched the shelves until my wife came up with the last two kites in existence. We ended up taking the hour or so drive to Westport. The weather was perfect. A comfortable temperature and just enough wind for the kites. We played at the beach for a couple of hours or so, then headed a few miles south to Grayland to our favorite restaurant Bennett's. After dinner we went back to the beach to catch the sunset. Knowing I was going to grab my camera and that I'd be there for a while our youngest decided to bring her kite back out. That provided me with the scenic Sunday shot I needed. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

Clouds in the Lake

Sunday, August 9, 2009
It's not always easy to catch Capitol Lake this calm.  It just had to be our contribution to Scenic Sunday. I hope everyone had a great weekend.
