Dinner at the Urban Onion

Last night I told you I took my wife out to dinner for Valentine's Day. Well, here's a so-so shot of the inside. It's a great little place called the Urban Onion. It's located inside the old Hotel Olympia/Olympian Apartment building which I showed you in a previous post here. It's a real cozy, comfortable place to eat. The menu has everything from burgers to pasta to fish. They also have something I haven't tried yet, sweet potato fries. I hear they're good. Maybe next visit I'll give 'em a try as well as getting a better shot of the inside.

Triceratops in the Hood

I think it's about time to show you some more of the colorful side to downtown Olympia. Now, let's look back for just a minute. Going clear back to August of last year I showed you the Hidden Zoo. Then in November it was the Olympia Rafah Mural Project on the side of the Labor Temple. The most recent addition were these blue salmon on the side of a local brewing company. Continuing on with our tour our most recent find was on the wall facing the alley at the Mini Saigon restaurant. I've got to say, there are some pretty talented artists helping these various businesses be seen. Oh, and don't worry, we're not done. There will be more.

Monochrome Weekly - The Manila Diner

After leaving the conservatory in Tacoma yesterday where we took a couple hundred photos, we happened to drive by The Manila Diner. As soon as we spotted it my wife and I looked at each other and said "We have to photograph this." Of course we were thinking of Hilda over at My Manila. Hilda has one of the best blogs on the web as far as we are concerned. Always informative and educational she does a wonderful job of showing us "her Manila." She has shown us cultural events and restaurants that make your mouth water. We turned the car around, went back and took a couple of photos, then went on with our day. Today I thought I would see if they had a website to find out more about this diner, and there it was. Take a look at their menu. It looks like they have a wonderful variety of dishes to please just about anyone. This diner is right in the heart of an industrial area so they get a lot of local workers I'm sure. I decided to make this shot our contribution to Monochrome Weekly.

UFO Sighting at Grayland

Today we decided to pack up the dogs and head for the ocean, Westport, specifically. The farther west we drove, the worse the weather. By the time we got to the beach it was so windy and cold we only spent a half hour or so there. After that we got back in the truck and decided to head south to Grayland. Every time we're in that area we stop at Bennett's, a restaurant right along the highway where the food is amazing and the service if possible is even better. We highly recommend it. After lunch we were driving along when we spotted this flying saucer sitting outside a curio shop. Too bad the shop was closed. We would have at least checked out the price. Hey, it even comes complete with alien pilot. You can't see it in this shot, but on the other side of the bubble there was a cinder block on the saucer. I assume it was there as sort of an anchor. You can't just have UFO's flying around town now can you? Anyway, we passed on it and headed for home the old fashioned way.
