Monochrome Weekly - The Manila Diner

Monday, September 28, 2009

After leaving the conservatory in Tacoma yesterday where we took a couple hundred photos, we happened to drive by The Manila Diner. As soon as we spotted it my wife and I looked at each other and said "We have to photograph this." Of course we were thinking of Hilda over at My Manila. Hilda has one of the best blogs on the web as far as we are concerned. Always informative and educational she does a wonderful job of showing us "her Manila." She has shown us cultural events and restaurants that make your mouth water. We turned the car around, went back and took a couple of photos, then went on with our day. Today I thought I would see if they had a website to find out more about this diner, and there it was. Take a look at their menu. It looks like they have a wonderful variety of dishes to please just about anyone. This diner is right in the heart of an industrial area so they get a lot of local workers I'm sure. I decided to make this shot our contribution to Monochrome Weekly.

I very much like the b&w here. And the place is inviting. It's clean and neat with good lines. I'd surely give it a try!

    Very nice shot!

I'm glad you made it black and white. I'm also quite curious how in the world that extensive menu comes out of what appears to be a rather small place. Very interesting post.

Lamont said to tell you that he enjoyed his birthday very much, camping two nights down south of Bend and hiking miles and miles in the Cascades with a guy he's been friends with for years--he flew up from Louisiana and spent a week up here with all of us. Lamont said he felt spoiled rotten by Oregon!

  5. Yay for Hilda and this is a very nice shot in monochrome.

  6. This shot is nice and ofcourse Hilda is doing and exceptional job in showing her city around !!Unseen Rajasthan

  7. Anonymous Says:

Looks a little drier underfoot than the unfortunate actual Manila.

  8. Perfect. I bet Hilda liked it too. MB

It's a great shot. I too thought about Hilda as soon as I saw it!

  11. Hilda Says:

Aww, Don and Krise! I love it! Thanks for going back to take a photo for me! I have their menu open in another tab and yup, the cook's a Filipina alright! If you ever go down that way again, try to have a meal there. I saw the 'longsilog' breakfast — my favorite! Although it's really just sausage and eggs ;)

  12. Thanks everyone, and Hilda, it was our pleasure. After reading that menu we might just go back and try their food.
