Bank Bling

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

This evening while driving through downtown Olympia we spotted this beautiful gold medallion on the Bank of America building. Knowing that over the years numerous banks have changed names, been bought, taken over and absorbed into the entity I decided to find out a little more about the connection between The 1st National Bank and Bank of America. I found out that the story is way too long to post here, but if you're interested in a short explanation click here

I like it that BA didn't remove this medallion. It's striking and a link to its long history.

  2. I too am glad the medallion still is on the building. It is part of history. MB

PS. About the Koi----we do have Blue Herons that come by and stand in the pond. I try to chase them away. I think they eat the frog and such. I think the Koi are too large for them. I have seem Raccoon tracks too. MB

It is nice to leave the medallion here on the ball. I don't suppose the 1st National Bank had to take taxpayer money to keep from going bankrupt like BA did. So it is a proud symbol of what a bank should be.

I am still making history on my Pick a Peck of Pixels blog. Today I posted a Zebra Butterfly with long tails. He is as big as your hand. Most have never seen one. Now you can see one at

These days banks are reincarnated more often than Joan Rivers has face lifts!

Beautiful medallion. Who would want to take that down?

  6. Very posh and striking medallion, it's good to know it's still there!

  7. When so much around us is changing it's nice when a little bit of the history is preserved.

    Thanks all!
