Floral Friday - Trillium on the Trail

Friday, September 25, 2009
Tonight, one of my favorite flowers, Trillium. Found in wooded, shaded areas this three petaled, three leafed wonder is fairly common in the Pacific Northwest. Most of the Trillium you find in the wild are white. I was lucky enough to once have a yellow one. They're not quite as easy to find. These two were a few yards off the Chehalis Western Trail while we were on a bike ride.

Unusual and unbeknownst to me...very beautiful flower. And they grow wild? Amazing. You'll have to show us a yellow one if you should happen upon such!

I'm glad we were able to show the rest of you something new.

Jacob: If I find a yellow one I'll do just that.

I've never seen a yellow one, but Trillium grandiflorum (a big white version) is Ontario's provincial flower. They bloom profusely in April here.
