While my wife and I were taking a walk downtown the other day we spotted this "not so welcoming" light pole. I knew the spikes looked familiar, I'd seen them before. My wife reminded me that they are all over various ledges at the State Capitol and other buildings on the Capitol Campus. Quite the rude awakening for the unlucky bird that doesn't look before he (or she) plops down here.

They treated their pigeons better in the 18th century.
AB: Point taken. ;-)
Where is a poor bird to rest? Amazing. I never saw these before.
Oh no! I have never seen anything like this. Being a bird lover I would not like it at all!
seen them and I understand the whys of them too. It makes a neat shot though. MB
MB: Yep, I understand too. Mess, nesting, etc. To me they just look slightly overkill. (Pardon the pun)
Maybe all the bird lovers of the world would like to come and clean my windowsills once a week... Don't I just love doing it. My breakfast usually wants to come out again while I do it. Nice, diseased, big town pigeons love to use them as er... So please, bird lovers everywhere, you're welcome to my windowsills.
Sorry about the rant.
ciel: I understand the frustration. Besides, it was a short rant.
I don't think that's very nice at all. If I was a bird I'd poop all over those spikes as I flew to a more welcoming place!
beautiful blue sky backdrop for those torture devices atop the light!
