Fire in the Sky

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Well, we did it. We hit 101 degrees here in Olympia today. They expect it to be slightly warmer tomorrow. If it hits 100 degrees at Sea-Tac Airport it will break the all time record. Even though it was 98 degrees inside at work today, even though we have to wrap our dogs in cool wet towels & I don't even want to talk about what it's like to be in shorts and sit down on a hot leather car seat just look at what we get to look at in the evening. You've got to admit it's hard not to stop and just stare at a sunset like this. Here's hoping everyone affected by this heat stays as cool as possible, puts down lots and lots of water and if you know any seniors check on them.

This is a glorious shot and, surprisingly, the power structure helps make it!

    Well done.

Sorry about the heat...amazing! That's warmer than it is here...we're only supposed to get to 90 today with rain all day.

How you do you survive at 98 degrees inside at work? No a/c? Can't imagine anyone gets much work done!

Best wishes - hope it cools down soon.

  5. I hope those power lines continue to send power to us hot beings for all the fans and ACs. Whew it was 96 up in these hills. Way too hot for this PNW girl. Where's the RAIN? MB

98 degrees inside--that's awful! Was the a/c broken? Make sure you stay hydrated and put a towel down on that car seat--ouch! That is a beautiful sunset though.

  7. Thanks all.
No, no A/C at work. Just lots of fans moving the hot air around. :(
I heard on the way to work this morning that it only got DOWN to 71 degrees overnight. That's a record in itself here. Now, it's supposed to get to 101+ at Sea-Tac Airport, and here in Olympia 104+. No whining though, you just have to be smart when it's that hot. Best wishes to you all for a wonderful day wherever you are!

In contrast to your heat we are going down as the coolest July on record. That is saying quite a lot for this area as July and August are normally our two hottest months. Not this year.Tell you friends. Link up.

I loved your Nessie photo and this sunset. I was not so fond of the heat yesterday. I've lived in much hotter places, but everyone is prepared for it, or more-so anyway. Yesterday I went into the nearest coffe house for a brain freeze, and it was about 100 degrees in there with no a/c. Today was expected to be hotter, but it's much cooler so far. I hope the same for you! Let's bring in that Marine layer!

  10. Well thanks for taking the drive on the hot seat because it really is fantastic!

  11. tapirgal: Yeah, Nessie was pretty cute. Stay cool.
ciel: Shorts + hot leather seat = OUCH!
